The Liebherr family business was created in 1949 by Hans Liebherr. The business first gained fame from its mobile tower crane which was well-known for its ease of assembly and affordability. It was upon this invention that the company's foundation flourished under. Now, The Liebherr business has grown to become amongst the leading manufacturers within the field of construction machines. The business has also gained the reputation of being the acknowledged provider of user-oriented technically innovative services and products in various fields. The company has now become a "Group" working in every continent with over 130 companies and over 35,000 workers across the world.
In order to ensure a manageable operating size, the Liebherr Group has been divided into different company units. These units have been designed to operate separately. This specific set up enables the business the ability to be flexible to market signals and stay in tune with global competition. In addition, having so many individual company units also keeps customer service running at an optimum level and ensures customer proximity.
Liebherr has instituted the divisional control companies to be able to deal with the management operations of sales and production for the individual product segments. The Liebherr Group now has 10 various product divisions.
The holding company of the Liebherr Group is Liebherr-International AG. Liebherr-International AG is located in Bulle, Switzerland and is operating by the Liebherr family members. Currently, the family business is being managed by Dr. H.C. Isolde Liebherr and her brother Dr. H.C. Willi Liebherr in the 2nd generation. Since the year 2012, some of the active individual divisions have been represented by members of the family in the 3rd generation including: Patricia Ruf, Stefanie Wohlfarth, Sophie Albrecht and Jan Liebherr. These family members have been working together to be able to help set up the course of the family business in the future. They are staying on top of residential buildings and large-scale industrial projects all over the globe.
Hans Liebherr began to build his business in the year 1949, in a tiny town known as Kirchdorf within southern Germany. Kirchdorf, presently supports amongst Liebherr's 20 manufacturing locations. They employ over 1400 people in that particular workforce and are able to average an annual output of roughly 2800 wheeled excavators.
