Classifications of Aerial Lift Platforms & Scissor Lifts
Scissor lifts consist of a series of crisscrossed steel arms, connected to create an X pattern. When the crisscrossed arms are extended, the platform is raised vertically. There are support railings along the edges of the lifting apparatus to be able to keep the employees safe and help to secure their tools.
Scissor lifts provide a low profile that is ideal for pavement, hard dirt surfaces and concrete. These machines utilize either a combustion engine or electric motor in order to power the lifting apparatus and move the lift. The operator will need to move the lift itself if she or he needs to travel horizontally, since the lift mechanism just operates the lift in a vertical manner.
Rough Terrain Scissor Lift
Rough terrain scissor lifts utilize the identical lifting technology as a regular scissor lift. The main difference is that the rough terrain units feature a different base which is specifically designed for surfaces which are not even. These units also provide higher ground clearance and oversized all terrain tires. The rough terrain scissor lifts utilize 4-wheel drive in order to navigate through difficult and muddy terrain without problems.
Telescopic Boom Lift
Telescopic booms are made to be raised both vertically and diagonally. This model has a small work platform which houses controls in order to operate the boom. The controls function with a combustion engine so as to power the hydraulics that move the lift and power the boom. The telescopic boom lift has off-road capable tires and is an independent lift unit.
Articulating Boom Lift
There are two telescopic booms on the articulating boom lift. These are connected with a moving elbow apparatus. This lifting equipment has a small work platform or a bucket that is outfitted with hand controls in order to control the boom. These are stand-alone lifts that are powered by a combustion engine. Articulating boom lifts are available with either off-road or hard surface tires. These lifts are made in order to reach over top of and on top of buildings.
Aerial Mast Lift
The aerial mast lift uses a telescopic mast in order to raise a work platform vertically into the air. Typically, these lifts are pneumatic powered or electrically powered and are self-propelled equipment. These equipment provide an excellent solution for working in high racks within narrow warehouse aisles. It is vital to remember that aerial mast lifts are limited to vertical movement and are not recommended for off-road application.
