History
In the year 1919, Salzgitter Maschinenbau AG was started. The company was established by an engineer and pioneer in oil drilling and modern drilling technology by Anton Raky. The company's initial name was Anton Raky, Tiefbohrungen in Salzgitter.
The cornerstone for SMAG was laid during the year 1937, when the Salzgitter Group obtained a manufacturing facility for its constructing drilling equipment. In 1986, the company obtained the grab product division from Peiner AG. Soon after, Peiner was developed into an international brand in the following years.
