How to Charge a Scissor Lift
There is a great convenience when utilizing a scissor lift, because the convenience of working and the lift basket's security provides peace of mind while trying to perform tasks that could have otherwise required working off the rung of a ladder. The safety risks involved with this particular equipment make it the right alternative for performing jobs from heights.
Nearly all scissor lifts are operated by batteries which are internally mounted inside the lift's base. These batteries have to be charged after a long shift or due to sitting after extended periods without use. It is an easy job to charge the batteries. This can be done without any specialized equipment or tools and requires no heavy labor.
The machine has to be parked near an electrical output so as to prepare the scissor lift for charging. This charging area should also be in a well-ventilated area. Then, in order to prevent another operator from driving away with the lift plugged in, press the emergency shut-off switch. The emergency shut off switch is the large red button found near the control box or the charger, in the lift basket. Find the battery charger on the right side of the base of the lift. Often, older units will have the charger mounted on the back of the lift.
The AC extension cord should next be plugged into the charger. Be sure to charge in a well ventilated place and plug the cord into an electrical outlet. In order to avoid accidental damage from being run over, the length of the electrical cord on the battery charger is purposely short. This is because if any extra length were to drop out of the battery charger storage area while in use, extreme danger could likely happen.
